Oman has unveiled its team lineup for the upcoming Asia Cup T20 tournament in the UAE next month.
Jatinder Singh, the opening batsman, will captain Oman in the eight-team event, where they are placed in Group A with Pakistan, hosts UAE, and India.
The 17-member squad includes players different from those in last year’s T20 World Cup, with Sufyan Yousuf, Zikriya Islam, Faisal Shah, and Nadeem Khan poised for their international debuts.
This marks Oman’s debut appearance in the Asia Cup, and head coach Duleep Mendis is eager to see the team’s potential.
“It’s exciting to participate in the Asia Cup, a major tournament and an excellent chance for our players to demonstrate their skills globally,” Mendis stated.
“Facing teams like India and Pakistan is a cherished moment for any cricketer. In T20, anything can happen, and one brilliant over can shift the game.
“Our preparation has been solid, with the National T20 tournament offering competitive experience, and our training has been rigorous. In high-pressure games against top teams, mental resilience is as vital as skills. We aim to make a mark in this Asia Cup and highlight Oman as a developing cricket nation.”
The former Sri Lankan Test player is optimistic about the team’s performance against the Asian giants.
“Oman enters the Asia Cup blending experience with youth, eager to challenge Asia’s cricket powerhouses,” Mendis commented.
“The tournament will test not only their skills but also their mental fortitude on one of cricket’s major stages.”
