Rashwan explained, in an intervention via the ‘Cairo News’ channel, that the agreement includes the principle of community delegation for management away from armed factions, paving the way for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, according to the ‘Al-Shorouk’ newspaper.
He added that the issue of Hamas’ weapons remains one of the most sensitive topics, with demands for their complete removal, while the movement insists it is a legitimate right of resistance. Rashwan revealed a proposal to freeze Hamas’ weapons for ten years during a long-term truce, as a compromise to ensure calm and temporary stability, paving the way for a new stage of negotiation and political system building in Gaza.
Rashwan condemned this disparity, saying: ‘Why is there an uproar over the remains of Israelis while there is no interest in Israel’s commitment to handing over Palestinian remains? Have the values of the remains come to be measured by different standards?’ He confirmed that this behavior contradicts humanitarian values and reflects a clear double standard in dealing with.
Since the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on October 13th, Hamas handed over live Israeli prisoners to Israel and a number of remains, while Israel released about two thousand Palestinian prisoners and remains of Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli war on Gaza, which lasted more than two years, caused the death of about 68,000 Palestinians and injured about 170,000 others, according to official data.
Last Monday, Egypt hosted a peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah and his American counterpart Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders and delegations from about 20 countries. Over two years of continuous Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the strip was destroyed from the far south to the north, where the medical sector, schools, universities, places of worship, infrastructure, and vital resources supporting life in the strip were destroyed, with 15 vital sectors in Gaza destroyed, and the attacks left large numbers of dead and injured among Palestinian civilians.
