In an intervention on “Sputnik” radio, Abdullah warned of “the accusations and inquiries directed at Pashinyan regarding the relinquishment of some of Armenia’s national rights and the concessions made to Azerbaijan. This could negatively impact the elections by provoking sentiments that weaken his position concerning Armenia’s historical rights.
He added that “this period witnessed agreements and a retreat on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, where Pashinyan appeared lenient and complacent towards Armenia’s sovereignty. However, if the election results contradict Washington’s expectations, it might resort to pressuring Armenia and possibly imposing sanctions on it.
Abdullah pointed out that “Washington benefits from international circumstances and Europe’s weakness. After its control over the Middle East, it is preparing to seize Asia, exploiting the pressures on Iran and Europe’s and Russia’s distraction in Ukraine.
He also noted that “the conflict between the political authority and the religious institution, which has significant influence over the public, constitutes an internal political crisis that is not new. This is amid objections to Pashinyan’s performance and policies that lean towards the West and NATO, which negatively affect Armenia’s historical interests and presence.
The Director of the Center for Legal and Political Studies at the Lebanese University concluded by emphasizing that “imposing will by force may lead to deep internal problems.” The arrest of the businessman and philanthropist, who defended the church, led to widespread indignation among the Armenian diaspora worldwide, who strongly condemned what they described as the political persecution of the church and its supporters.
