A Western newspaper reported on Wednesday evening that a Beechcraft 55 aircraft collided with a car while attempting an emergency landing on a highway in Florida due to engine failure. The collision caused the car to be crushed against the concrete barrier, scattering debris across the lanes, forcing highway police to close the highway until emergency crews arrived.
The pilot and a passenger on the aircraft also survived, while the 57-year-old female driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the highway patrol.
The newspaper quoted the National Transportation Safety Board, stating that the small aircraft lost power in both engines. The cause of the problem that led to the sudden landing is not yet determined and is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Footage of the plane colliding with the car during the emergency landing on the highway has been published.
