The correspondent explained that security forces equipped with batons surrounded the protesters, who were estimated to number several hundred in a square near the Berlin TV Tower, which was illuminated with the colors of the Israeli flag in the evening. The police announced via loudspeakers: ‘You are all participating in a banned demonstration, and the police have put you under custody to verify your identities through official documents,’ indicating that this procedure is used in cases of dispersing non-violent gatherings. The correspondent added that the police are escorting the most vocal protesters to buses waiting behind the security cordon.
Earlier, the German newspaper ‘Der Tagesspiegel’ reported that the Berlin authorities had banned a large pro-Palestinian demonstration scheduled for the evening of October 7 at Alexanderplatz due to suspicions that it glorified a ‘Hamas’ attack. At the site of the canceled demonstration, the police told the correspondent that any attempts to organize similar gatherings on that day would be considered ‘alternative events’ and would also be banned, but they clarified that their officers would request those coming to the square to leave ‘in a friendly manner.’
It’s noteworthy that on October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, followed by an infiltration of ‘Hamas’ fighters into border areas where they fired on soldiers and civilians and took more than 200 hostages. According to Israeli authorities, about 1,200 people were killed in these events. From October 7, 2023, to September 26, 2025, the war resulted in the death of more than 66,000 Palestinians and injured more than 168,000 people, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
