‘Qatar is not alone’
The emergency summit, uniting members of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, kicked off with a foreign ministers’ meeting on Sunday to draft the resolution.
The gathering signals that “Qatar is not alone … and that Arab and Islamic nations stand with it,” Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
Qatar, a significant mediator in attempts to resolve the nearly two-year Gaza conflict, has accused Israel of undermining peace efforts and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “state terrorism.” A member of Qatar’s internal security forces was among the casualties.
The UAE summoned the deputy Israeli ambassador on Friday in response to the attack and Netanyahu’s subsequent “hostile” remarks.
The UAE has emphasized that Qatar’s stability is an “inseparable part of the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council states,” which includes Saudi Arabia.
