Qatar remains committed to mediating a ceasefire and facilitating hostage releases in Gaza, even after Israel’s deadly attack on a Hamas site in Doha, announced the prime minister on Tuesday.

The airstrike claimed six lives, including the son of senior Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari security official, posing a significant threat to the ongoing mediation efforts.

Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that Qatar retains “the right to respond to this overt aggression,” describing the incident as a “turning point” for the region.

He emphasized, “We will not be deterred from our mediation efforts concerning various regional issues.”

Doha, an important US ally hosting the largest American military base in the region, has been the location for Hamas’ political bureau since 2012 with US approval.

The White House commented that President Donald Trump disapproved of Israel’s military actions on a US ally’s territory and had forewarned Qatar about the impending attack.

Qatar refuted claims of prior warning, stating it was only informed by the US after the attack commenced.
