Cairo – During a press conference this Wednesday evening, Bedrosian confirmed that the Rafah crossing will open in both directions after all the bodies of Israeli hostages have been recovered according to the terms of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

She explained that the Rafah crossing will open soon. In the first phase, it will be open for residents wishing to leave for Egypt, and their departure will be facilitated through coordination with the Egyptian side after security approval from Israel.

She stated that the process of Palestinians leaving through the Rafah crossing to the Egyptian side will be according to the mechanism used in January 2025, a decision made in full coordination with mediators on this plan.

She noted that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, clarified that those wishing to leave the Gaza Strip should be allowed to do so.

Since the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and “Hamas” on October 13, Hamas has handed over live Israeli prisoners and some bodies to Israel, while releasing about two thousand Palestinian prisoners and bodies of Palestinian prisoners.

The Israeli war on Gaza, which lasted more than two years, resulted in the death of about 68,000 Palestinians and injured about 170,000 others, according to official data.

In October, Egypt hosted a peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah and attended by US President Donald Trump, along with leaders and delegations from about 20 countries.

During two years of continuous Israeli warfare on the Gaza Strip, the region suffered destruction from the southernmost to the northernmost parts. The medical sector, schools, universities, places of worship, infrastructure, and vital resources that sustain life in the region were destroyed. Fifteen vital sectors in Gaza were devastated, and the attacks resulted in large numbers of civilian Palestinian casualties.
