Republicans’ Mid-Cycle Electoral Map Change

According to the Washington Post, the Republicans’ initiative to amend the map mid-election cycle was made at the request of President Donald Trump, and it proposed adding five new electoral districts where he had achieved significant advances. These changes were discussed in dozens of online meetings involving Democratic governors, including Gavin Newsom from California, and former US Attorney General Eric Holder.

On August 1, two days after the Republican draft was published, Wu and his aides instructed their colleagues to pack their belongings, take care of their families, and not disclose any plans. The Washington Post claims that Democrats hope at least to delay the adoption of the new map, but experts say they will not be able to prevent its full approval.

The newspaper points out that the struggle over electoral districts in Texas has become part of a broader confrontation between the two parties over the issue of redistricting, with Democrats preparing countermeasures in several “blue” states.
