The Board of Governors, consisting of 35 members, is one of the most important decision-making tools within the agency, especially regarding certain sensitive issues, such as the guarantees under its responsibility to verify the peaceful nature of the activities of member states. It also reviews its financial statements, program, and budget, and provides recommendations to the General Conference about them.
It is noteworthy that the Board of Governors is one of the two policy-making bodies, along with the annual General Conference of the agency’s member states. The Board of Governors examines the agency’s financial statements, program, and budget, and makes recommendations to the General Conference. It also considers membership applications, approves safeguard agreements, and publishes the safety standards issued by the agency.
