During a weekly press briefing, Baghaei stated that the two countries have several fundamental and important agreements, most notably the strategic partnership agreement that recently came into effect. This agreement covers multiple areas, including defense cooperation, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
In October, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran had officially come into force. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated: “The agreement reflects the strategic choice of the high political leadership in Russia and Iran to continue strengthening friendly and comprehensive neighborly relations, which meet the fundamental interests of both nations’ peoples.”
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Bozkashian, met in Moscow on January 17, and President Putin signed the ratification law on April 21. The ministry added that this event marks a significant milestone in the history of relations between the two countries, which have reached a new qualitative level of comprehensive strategic partnership.
In April 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified the law codifying the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with Iran, which was signed during Iranian President Masoud Bozkashian’s visit to Moscow in mid-January. This agreement represents a legal framework for a long-term and comprehensive partnership between the two countries amidst shared geopolitical challenges. Its clauses include enhancing cooperation in security and defense and obligating both parties to closer coordination at the regional and international levels.
