In response to a question about the Kremlin’s view on whether Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara’s visit to Washington might cause some disruptions in the Russian talks with the Syrian authorities, he said: “I do not think these matters are related. We are building our relations with the new Syrian leadership. You know that Mr. Al-Shara’s recent visit to Moscow was substantial and highly successful, and his talks with Putin, incidentally, were very lengthy.
Earlier, the Syrian transitional president, Ahmad Al-Shara, stated in an interview with Fox News that the Syrian Arab Republic has now become a geopolitical ally worth investing in. The Ministry confirmed earlier that Moscow and Damascus maintain communication at all levels and the dialogue is ongoing, including in the oil and gas sectors, and that official contacts are maintained at all levels.
Earlier, Al-Shara confirmed that “Syria will try to reset its relations with Russia, and the most important thing is stability in the country and the region,” noting that “Russia and Syria are connected by serious cooperation bridges, including economic cooperation.”
