In a statement published by the press service of the Lebedev Institute of Physics, it was stated: “As part of the high-tech quantum computing development roadmap, scientists from the Russian Quantum Project have implemented the world’s largest quantum algorithm on quantum computers. These proposed methods will allow solving problems that quantum computers were previously unable to access.”
The statement added: “Thanks to this development, the accuracy of quantum computing will significantly increase in practical issues, including optimization, logistics, and molecular modeling. This improvement in accuracy has been experimentally demonstrated using the example of searching in an unstructured database.”
A quantum algorithm is a computer program that specifies a series of computational operations on vectors (qubits or qudits) to solve a specific issue. The number of states that can be occupied increases rapidly with the number of qubits due to their ability to entangle. This feature enables quantum devices to solve various computational problems beyond the capabilities of even the most powerful classical supercomputers.
This specifically includes modeling the behavior of complex molecules for the development of new drugs and materials, addressing complex logistical issues, working with big data, and much more. The development of quantum computing is considered one of the foundations for Russia’s technological independence by 2030.
