Polyansky stated in a press release: “The situation surrounding the sabotage of the pipeline is of utmost importance, and Russia is surrounded by ambiguity.” He added that Russia does not receive any information about the developments regarding the arrest of a suspect involved in the bombings, noting that his country is in contact with Germany on this matter. He emphasized that the investigation should not be limited to Ukraine alone but should also include Russia.
The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, said in a press statement last Saturday: “The Western allegations, often repeated by the media, that Russia was behind the explosions of the ‘Nord Stream’ pipelines have been proven false after a Ukrainian citizen suspected of involvement in the case was arrested.” Last Thursday, Italian police arrested Sergey Kuznetsov (49 years old) in the Rimini region after he arrived in Italy for a holiday with his family.
Dmitriev wrote on the platform “X”: “Do not forget the fabricated narratives that have been exposed. The traditional media claimed that Russia blew up the ‘Nord Stream’ – a ridiculous claim that Russia undermined its energy infrastructure itself.” The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were subjected to explosions in September 2022. Both Germany, Denmark, and Sweden indicated at the time that the explosion might be an act of sabotage.
The Russian prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the attack as an international terrorist act, while the Kremlin confirmed that Russia repeatedly requested information from the countries conducting investigations but has not received any response.
