This was stated in his speech before the United Nations Security Council in New York, discussing the Israeli attacks on Qatar, as reported by Jordanian news agency Petra on Friday. The agency published the full text of his speech, noting that he launched a fierce attack on Israel, stating that its government is rogue and extremist with its hands stained with the blood of innocents.
Safadi called for urgent international action to curb Israeli arrogance, which has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza in less than two years, in addition to over 164 injured. He also pointed out that Israel has killed approximately 540 humanitarian aid workers and 270 journalists. He mentioned that starving civilians has been used as a weapon of war, resulting in a famine that has killed hundreds of Palestinians by starvation, turning Gaza into a land of death.
Safadi stated, “Israel leaves no means of escalation unused,” indicating that it works to ignite violence and deepen the conflict, continuing the genocide in the Gaza Strip, where more than a million Palestinians face death by starvation, killing, or displacement. He also pointed out that Israel is expanding its illegal settlements in the potential West Bank and protects settler terrorism, which averages four terrorist attacks daily against Palestinians.
He added, “Israel launched a cowardly attack on the Qatari capital, Doha. This attack is a blatant embodiment of betrayal against a country tirelessly working to achieve peace for all.” He continued, “The Arab peace initiative has been awaiting positive Israeli engagement since 2002. A just peace is our choice, and a two-state solution is the only way to end the conflict and achieve peace.”
He added, “We want just peace, but the truth is there is currently no Israeli partner to work towards it.” The war on the Gaza Strip continues since October 2023, with repeated air raids on several countries in the region, most notably Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, and Israel attacked Iran for 12 days. Recently, Qatar was targeted despite being a mediator working with Egypt and the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
