Australia’s opener Sam Konstas conquered his “mental demons” with a counter-attacking century for Australia A in Lucknow. The 19-year-old’s impressive performance strengthens his bid to stay in the test side for the upcoming Ashes.
Konstas scored 109 runs from 144 balls against India A, aiding his team to reach 337 for five by the end of the day.
After a challenging tour in the West Indies earlier this year, Konstas was pleased to return to form.
“I faced quite a few mental challenges, and getting through them was key. I’m thrilled and hope to build on this,” he expressed.
While the Australia A tour of India is geared towards long-term planning for the 2027 test series, Konstas’s innings is sure to catch the selectors’ attention with the first Ashes Test in Perth just two months away.
Australia A’s captain, Nathan McSweeney, who opened against India last summer before Konstas replaced him, was dismissed lbw for one, batting at number three.
