Kamchatka – Sputnik. The center explained that the earthquake was recorded at 13:39 local time (04:39 Moscow time), and its epicenter was about 111 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of approximately 47.6 kilometers. According to initial estimates, the intensity of the tremor was 3 degrees on the modified Mercalli scale, with no tsunami warnings issued.

This earthquake is part of increased seismic activity in Kamchatka since July 30, when the region was hit by the strongest earthquake since 1952, with a magnitude of 8.8. Since then, experts have recorded dozens of aftershocks daily, most of which are not felt by residents.

Seismologists confirm that the strength of these aftershocks is gradually decreasing, but the level of seismic activity is still described as “extremely high.” Local authorities declared a natural emergency in the region at the end of July.
