Khayr Ahmad stated in an interview with ‘Sputnik Radio’: ‘The primary focus of the meetings is economic, aligning with the overarching goals of the Shanghai Summit, which are overshadowed by the unilateral actions of U.S. President Donald Trump, imposing tariffs on countries worldwide.’
He noted that ‘President Putin’s meetings in Beijing signify a new phase where Russia stands stronger today after opening up to Donald Trump’s administration on one hand, and increased alignment with the Chinese leadership on the other, as Russia today is closer to the Chinese way of thinking through more strategic cooperation.’
The researcher on Chinese affairs emphasized that ‘The most important aspect for Russia is its national security, clarifying its position on Europe, and creating more space for partnership, understanding, and common discourse,’ pointing to the possibility of ‘a role distribution that satisfies Russia and other countries, including Turkey.’
He also pointed out that ‘Russia’s invitation to the Pakistani Prime Minister to visit during the Beijing meeting is evidence of the possibility of cooperation between countries despite political disagreements.’
Conversely, Khayr Ahmad explained that ‘The West promotes the idea that the Shanghai Organization seeks to create a global pole to rival the Western pole and revive Cold War rhetoric by forming an alliance to face NATO,’ considering that ‘these are not just fears from the West, but perhaps part of the mobilization against this new form of global order, as it contradicts the traditional form since the Cold War and conflicts with the interests of the countries benefiting from it.’
