Sharjah Police Bust Drug Smuggling Rings

Sharjah Police have dismantled international drug smuggling networks that attempted to import 17kg of cocaine into the UAE.

One group tried to smuggle over 12kg of cocaine for distribution. The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority carried out precise monitoring, tracked suspicious activities, and quickly coordinated with the police to gather information effectively.

Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asem, Director of the Directorate of Drug Prevention and Control, confirmed the arrest of the primary smuggler, who is of Asian nationality, upon his entry into the UAE from a Gulf nation.

Two African nationals, ready to receive the shipment, were also caught in the act.

He noted that investigative work and collaborative efforts with the National Centre for Early Information helped specialized teams identify another passenger of the same nationality traveling between Gulf countries through a UAE airport.

In less than two hours, the National Drug Control Authority shared the suspect’s details and the narcotics concealment method with the destination country, leading to the seizure of approximately 5kg of cocaine.

Al Asem commended the joint efforts that dismantled this international operation, highlighting the precision and professionalism in monitoring the network’s movements, which allowed for the swift seizure of both operations.

This reflects the commitment of the National Drug Control Authority and Sharjah Police in enhancing community protection systems, combating drug smuggling networks, and strengthening security cooperation with local, federal, and international bodies.

Sharjah Police emphasized that thwarting these operations in a short time showcases the emirate’s security efficiency and the high level of coordination among relevant authorities to protect society from drug-related harm.
