Sinner Skips Davis Cup; Alcaraz Leads Spain

Jannik Sinner has opted out of participating in this year’s Davis Cup Finals, as confirmed on Monday by the reigning champions Italy. Meanwhile, world number one Carlos Alcaraz will compete for Spain in the upcoming event.

Ranked second globally, Sinner guided Italy to defend their title last year in Spain, but he won’t be present when the Final 8 unfolds in Bologna from November 18-23.

“Jannik Sinner hasn’t made himself available for 2025,” stated Italian captain Filippo Volandri.

“The Davis Cup will always be Jannik’s home, and I’m confident he’ll rejoin the team soon. For now, I rely on a squad eager to fight and give their all for the blue jersey.”

Volandri’s squad includes Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Andrea Vavassori.

This year, Sinner clinched titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and reached the finals in all four Grand Slams. He’ll be in Turin a week before the Davis Cup to defend his ATP Finals title, where Alcaraz is also qualified.

Alcaraz aims to secure Spain’s first Davis Cup victory since 2019, alongside Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers.

World number three Alexander Zverev will debut at the Davis Cup Finals, representing Germany at 28 years old.
