The operation announced last Friday evening resulted in the killing of more than 100 members of the al-Shabaab movement and the capture of several fighters alive, while security forces continue to sweep the city and surrounding areas. The forces also seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition as part of efforts to enhance security and stability in the region, according to “SONNA.” The Somali Ministry of Defense praised the bravery of the army and AU forces, confirming that this achievement was supported by Somalia’s international allies. The ministry stated that more details will be revealed once the information related to the operation is fully collected. Somalia has witnessed bloody clashes for years between government forces and al-Shabaab militants, who are linked to al-Qaeda, a terrorist group banned by Russia and many countries, aiming to take control of the country.
