Sourav Ganguly Joins Pretoria Capitals as Head Coach

Sourav Ganguly has been named the head coach of Pretoria Capitals, marking his inaugural step into coaching, as announced by South Africa’s SA20 franchise.

The 53-year-old replaces former England player Jonathan Trott, with ex-South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock joining as assistant coach.

“The Prince is ready to add a touch of royalty to the Capitals! We are thrilled to welcome Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach,” Pretoria Capitals shared on social media on Sunday.

Ganguly, who retired from international cricket in 2008, shifted from playing to administration, serving as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022.

The former left-handed batsman also previously acted as a mentor for the Indian Premier League’s Delhi Capitals.

The BCCI restricts active players from joining overseas franchise leagues to maintain the IPL’s prestige, which draws many of the world’s elite cricketers.
