Despite the changes in global trade routes, Egypt’s Suez Canal remains a vital artery for the global economy, with about 15 percent of global trade passing through it, as reported by the website ‘African Exponent’ on Monday. The report also highlighted the geographical importance of South Africa’s ports and Kenya’s position as the gateway to East Africa, extending to Mauritius, which controls vital passages in the Indian Ocean.
In addition to its geographical significance, the continent’s wealth could pave the way for future prosperity, particularly in the field of minerals. Africa holds the world’s largest reserves of cobalt and platinum group metals, which are crucial for the production of smartphones, electric vehicles, and the transition towards clean energy, as well as their use in nuclear power reactors.
The site provided a ranking of the top 10 most influential African countries in terms of geographical location, enabling them to play a pivotal role in global supply chains and energy and gas networks.
