The storm’s effects are felt beyond the Philippines, with overseas Filipinos worried about their families. Fatima S., living in Sharjah, is concerned for her Isabela-based relatives, fearing their fragile homes might succumb to flooding.
“I panic every time I hear about the rising waters. I can’t help from here, only pray they survive,” said the 47-year-old nanny.
This typhoon follows Typhoon Kalmaegi, which devastated Central Visayas, killing 188 and leaving many missing, marking the year’s deadliest disaster in the Philippines.
J.P., a 26-year-old in Dubai on vacation in Cebu, faces uncertainty over her return flight to Dubai on November 11, despite being safe with her family.
She shared with Khaleej Times via a voice note: “We have no power. My phone is low on battery, so I’m saving it to update my family in Manila.”
A.T., a 50-year-old writer from Dubai in Metro Manila on emergency leave, is worried about his Bicol-based family where the typhoon rages. While safe, they’re preparing for emergencies.
“We’ve stocked food, charged devices, and ready emergency lights,” he said, hoping his family remains safe before his flight back to Dubai.
