This was mentioned in an interview with Al Arabiya Net on Monday evening, where it was stated that Damascus had conducted three rounds of negotiations with the Israelis. However, it was added, “The Israeli strikes have complicated matters.” Regarding the situation in the southern province of Sweida, Mustafa said that the Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri continues to take a stubborn stance. He clarified that Damascus is working to compensate those affected by the conflict between tribes and Druze in the area.
The Syrian Minister of Information’s statements about relations with Israel come after Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani previously asserted that Israeli raids on Syrian territories made the situation between Damascus and Tel Aviv difficult. It is noteworthy that Ahmed al-Shara, responsible for the transitional phase, previously stated that talks with Israel continue in order to reach a security agreement.
Since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s government, Israel has been conducting airstrikes and incursions into southern Syria, which Damascus maintains are violations of its sovereignty.
