Sources explained to the Algerian newspaper “Al-Nahar” that the decision to detain the ship “Jean Nicoli” was due to technical defects that prevent the ship from sailing safely. The newspaper noted that the ship was making regular voyages to transport passengers between Algiers and the port of Marseille.
Passengers who booked to travel on the ship to Marseille complained of receiving repeated notifications via text messages over 72 hours, indicating a delay in the trip without specifying a set departure time, according to the Algerian “Sabq Press”. The French shipping company “Corsica Linea” announced the cancellation of the last trip on the Bejaia – Marseille line, which was scheduled for last Friday, after canceling the trip from Sete to Bejaia the previous Thursday, according to French media.
The French company explained that “the cancellation came for operational reasons” and urged affected passengers to contact customer service to find out about available alternatives. French reports added that “these adjustments indicate a period of operational instability on the Bejaia – Marseille line, which is currently operated exclusively by “Corsica Linea”.”
