The crisis began last Sunday when Omar Assar received greetings from all team members before his match against the Niger player, except from his teammate, Mahmoud Ashraf. This angered Assar before the administrative team intervened to calm him down.
The conflict resurfaced during the match when Assar received praise from everyone except Ashraf, prompting him to request that Ashraf not sit on the bench until the end of the match. This led to a verbal altercation between them, which required the administrative team to step in to contain it.
During the altercation, Omar Assar told his teammate Mahmoud Ashraf, “You are disrespectful.” It is noted that Omar Assar recently won the men’s singles gold medal at the African Championship for the fifth time in his career after defeating Youssef Abdel Aziz, making him the first player to achieve this feat in five editions.
