This was stated by Zanzri during the opening of the 23rd session of the Joint High Committee with Algeria, attended by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghareeb, last Friday. Al-Zaafrani emphasized the importance of continuous coordination between the leaderships of the two countries on regional and international issues, stressing Tunisia’s constant support for the Libyan people to achieve security and stability through political dialogue under UN auspices, according to the Libyan newspaper “Al-Wasat”.

The Tunisian Prime Minister welcomed the outcomes of the second trilateral meeting on Libya, which was held in Algeria on November 6, 2025, considering it an important step to enhance stability and support the comprehensive political solution process. Al-Zaafrani stressed the necessity of unifying perspectives among Libya’s neighboring countries and their role in supporting security and stability in the Maghreb and Arab regions.

For his part, the Algerian Prime Minister affirmed his country’s support along with Tunisia for a comprehensive political settlement of the Libyan crisis, by enabling Libyans to achieve national reconciliation and conduct legislative and presidential elections leading to unified and strong institutions that preserve Libya’s security, stability, and wealth.

The Algerian official pointed out that Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt seek to unite their efforts in pushing Libya towards elections and establishing unified institutions, emphasizing the importance of restoring stability in Sudan and maintaining its unity, sovereignty, and protecting its resources.

It is noteworthy that the trilateral mechanism between Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia was established in 2017 to support peace efforts in Libya and was halted in 2019 before being resumed in May 2025. The last trilateral consultative meeting was held last month in Algeria. Libya is suffering from a complex political crisis with the presence of two rival governments; the first in the east led by Osama Hammad appointed by the House of Representatives, and the second in the west led by Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who refuses to relinquish power except through elections.

Presidential elections were scheduled in Libya for December 24, 2021, but political disagreements among the conflicting parties, in addition to the dispute over the electoral law, have prevented their completion.
