Cairo – Sputnik. In a press statement, Trump responded to a question about Gaza: “The war is over.” The U.S. President revealed that Hamas might release some of the hostages earlier than scheduled in the ceasefire agreement between the movement and Israel. Trump noted that a “Peace Council” will soon be established in Gaza.
Today, Monday, the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh is hosting a peace summit to end the war in the Gaza Strip, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with leaders from more than 20 countries participating, as announced by the Egyptian presidency.
The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement came into effect last Friday afternoon. This resulted from indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel, hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh last week, with mediation by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, based on a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza. Both Hamas and Israel signed the arrangements for the first phase.
Hamas announced the withdrawal of the occupation from the area and the entry of aid and prisoner exchange, calling on the guarantor parties to oblige the Israeli government to fully implement the agreement’s terms.
Last Friday, the Israeli army confirmed that its forces had positioned themselves on new operational deployment lines towards the yellow line as part of the first phase of the agreement, while maintaining control over approximately 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.
Trump, on September 29, revealed during a press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a plan to end the ongoing war for nearly two years between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
