On August 22, Fifa President Gianni Infantino brought the prestigious World Cup trophy to the Oval Office.

“Only Presidents and champions can touch it,” he stated in a viral video. While presenting the trophy to US President Donald Trump, Infantino emphasized it was “for winners only.”

Infantino mentioned that the last person to hold the cup was Argentina’s Lionel Messi. As Trump grasped the golden trophy, he joked, “Can I keep it?”

In a humorous exchange shared widely on Elon Musk’s platform X, Trump quipped, “we’re not giving it back.” He even suggested the trophy be displayed on the wall, eliciting laughter from those present. Watch the video below:

On Friday, Trump announced that the main headquarters for the 2026 World Cup would be at the Kennedy Centre. He is managing a $257 million renovation there, calling it a highlight of the upcoming 250th US anniversary, which aligns with the World Cup.

The 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Trump projected the event would contribute over $30 billion to the US economy and create more than 185,000 jobs.
