Trump Sees Potential for Gaza Peace Deal

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about a “real chance” for a Gaza peace agreement, as indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israeli representatives coincided with the second anniversary of the October 7 attack.

“We are on the brink of a significant Middle East peace deal,” Trump announced to reporters in the Oval Office, joined by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

He mentioned that US representatives are actively participating in the discussions currently underway in Egypt. As per the White House, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are set to be involved.

“There’s a genuine opportunity for us to achieve something,” Trump stated.

“I believe there’s a chance for peace in the Middle East, extending beyond the Gaza issue. An immediate release of hostages is a priority,” he emphasized.

“Our team is present there now; another team has just departed, and worldwide support for the plan is substantial,” Trump remarked.

He also affirmed that the United States is committed to ensuring compliance with the agreement, should Hamas and Israel reach a ceasefire to conclude the conflict.
