Upon his arrival in Tel Aviv, Trump was received by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and US Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
Trump will participate in a ceremony welcoming the Israeli prisoners released by the Palestinian Hamas movement on Monday morning. Trump followed a live broadcast of the release of the Israeli hostages from Gaza as he traveled to Israel.
The White House described the event, through spokesperson Caroline Levitt, as “history being made” in a post on social media.
Today, Monday, the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh is hosting a peace summit aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip, jointly chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries, as announced by the Egyptian presidency.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect last Friday afternoon, resulting from indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel, hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh last week, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, based on a proposal by US President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza.
Both Hamas and Israel signed arrangements for the first phase. Hamas announced the withdrawal of the occupation forces, the entry of aid, and the exchange of prisoners, calling on the guarantor parties to ensure that the Israeli government fully implements the agreement.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army confirmed last Friday that its forces had repositioned along the new operational deployment lines towards the yellow line as part of the first phase of the agreement, maintaining control over approximately 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.
On September 29, during a press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump revealed a plan to end the ongoing war of nearly two years between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
