Trump said, “We are trying to introduce a bill, you know, a bill, or a bill that can never be repeated. The government cannot be shut down just to attempt renegotiating an agreement.” This crucial rule stipulates that a bill must be closed before it is put to a vote. Trump later claimed that the Democrats would eliminate the right to filibuster as soon as they regain the majority in Congress. He pointed out that they plan to make Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia new states to ensure Democrats gain more seats in Congress.
Republican majority leaders in the Senate and House, John Thune and Mike Johnson, expressed their concerns about this proposal, noting that it could backfire on Republicans in the future if they lose their majority in the Senate.
