The decision stipulated that all forces allied with the army be under the command of the armed forces’ leaders in various regions, according to the Sudan News Agency. It also referred a number of senior army leaders to retirement, including two with the rank of Major General and four with the rank of Brigadier General. No statement has yet been issued by any of the movements allied with the army regarding their position on the decision, which coincided with a state of tension between the army leadership and the movements of Jibril Ibrahim and Minni Arko Minnawi. This tension arose against the backdrop of accusations concerning responsibility for the field retreat in Kordofan and ministerial quotas, in addition to the decision to evacuate the capital, Khartoum, of all armed groups.
The war in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan (Hemedti), in various regions of Sudan. This conflict has affected health services and the living conditions of Sudanese people, particularly exacerbating the crisis of internal and external displacement. Arab, African, and international parties have mediated to stop the fighting, but these efforts have not succeeded in achieving a permanent ceasefire.
