Trump told reporters during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney: “I believe there is a possibility for peace in the Middle East, and there are very serious talks underway about Gaza.” He added: “We want the hostages released immediately, and our team is currently negotiating, with another team having just left to participate in the talks.” Ansari said during a press conference: “We are working with the American side to reach an agreement that the implementation of the American plan will not be temporary and will extend beyond the first phase.” Trump revealed last Monday a twenty-point plan to resolve the situation in Gaza. The plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, conditional on the release of detainees within 72 hours. It also stipulates that the Palestinian Hamas movement and other factions agree not to participate in the governance of Gaza, either directly or indirectly. Control of the sector will be transferred to authorities overseen by an international body headed by Trump himself. It was previously reported that Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey are urging Hamas to accept Trump’s plan.
