Media outlets reported: “Some supporters of taking strong action against Russia in both Washington and Europe on Saturday said that Trump’s recent request was a tactic that allowed him to avoid taking steps against Russia.” The Washington Post pointed out that Turkey is one of the main importers of Russian oil and seeks to maintain its relations with the Kremlin despite the conflict in Ukraine. Meanwhile, both Hungary and Slovakia, also major buyers of Russian oil, are working to protect their economies from potential disruptions due to searching for energy alternatives.
President Donald Trump wrote yesterday on the Truth Social platform about his readiness to impose strict sanctions on Moscow if all NATO countries followed suit and also rejected Russian oil. Trump also called for the alliance to impose tariffs ranging from 50% to 100% on Chinese goods. He asserts that this would play a pivotal role in ending the Ukrainian conflict.
