The Turkish Parliament’s press office reported that “the parliament has approved a presidential proposal extending the mandate of the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria and Iraq for three years.” It is noted that it serves as the headquarters for the senior leadership of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, while the “People’s Protection Units,” the Syrian branch of the organization, are spread across Syria.
Last year, the “Turkey Free of Terrorism” initiative was launched by Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party. In response to his call, Abdullah Öcalan issued a message to his party, urging them to dissolve.
