Zaghib explained in an intervention on “Sputnik Radio” that “the discussions focused on two main points in preparation for emerging solutions. The first is Ukraine’s demand to join NATO, a demand described by Trump as ‘impossible,’ which might be countered by security guarantees for Ukraine as suggested by the U.S. President.” He noted that “the development in these two files indicates a significant breakthrough made by the American president in this conflict, which may become clearer very soon.
It is evident that the two core issues around which the conflict in Ukraine revolved are now on common ground thanks to U.S. mediation efforts. The issue of territories, previously considered taboo by the Ukrainian side, is now met with acceptance and realism in the context of land exchanges. This is an important development reflecting recognition of the rights of Russian people in those areas to self-determination and joining their motherland.
Vladimir Zelensky headed to Washington today, Monday, to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump after the Russian-American summit to discuss the next steps towards ending the Ukrainian conflict. Trump will then meet with European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Last Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Donald Trump met in Alaska. The meeting took place at the “Elmendorf-Richardson” military base in a ‘trilateral’ format and lasted for two hours and 45 minutes. Also participating in the meeting were Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov. On the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Presidential Envoy Steve Whitcomb were present.
