Schools following the Indian curriculum in the UAE are set for a festive long weekend with a four-day Diwali break starting this Friday.
This decision has been embraced by both parents and students, offering families the opportunity to celebrate the festival of lights together.
In a recent circular, Our Own Indian School in Dubai announced the closure, stating: “On behalf of the entire OIS family, I wish you and your loved ones a Happy Diwali. Please note that the school will be closed on Friday, 17 October 2025, and Monday, 20 October 2025, for Diwali. Regular school hours will resume on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.”
Many other Indian schools under various educational groups are likely to follow similar schedules, respecting community traditions and festive celebrations.
The extended holiday, coinciding with the weekend, provides families additional time for travel, temple visits, and festive gatherings.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a major festival for the Indian community in the UAE and globally. It is celebrated with traditional customs, sweets, and lighting of lamps.
Amid the festive atmosphere, schools are encouraging students to use the break for cultural activities and family bonding, returning revitalized for the second half of the term.
