Naryshkin pointed out during the meeting of the CIS Security and Special Services Chiefs in Samarkand that after the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, British intelligence is testing the limits of what is permissible against Brussels and is preparing for sabotage in the Baltic and Black Seas.
Explosions targeted the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which export Russian gas to Europe, on September 26, 2022. Germany, Denmark, and Sweden did not rule out that sabotage was behind the incident.
Nord Stream AG, the operator, indicated that the destruction of the gas pipelines was unprecedented, and it is impossible to estimate the repair time.
In 2023, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh published an investigation citing a source that explosive devices were planted under the Russian gas pipelines in June 2022 by U.S. Navy divers with support from Norwegian specialists under the guise of ‘Baltops’ exercises. According to Hersh, the operation was authorized by then-U.S. President Joe Biden.
Later, the Pentagon (U.S. Department of Defense) told Sputnik news agency that the United States had no connection to the bombing of the Russian gas pipelines.
