The organization, affiliated with the United Nations, attributed the outbreak to declining vaccination rates. Data showed that 71% of cases were recorded among unvaccinated individuals, while the vaccination status of 18% of those infected was unknown, according to Western media outlets. According to the organization’s statistics, 10,139 confirmed measles cases and 18 related deaths were recorded in 10 countries in the Americas up to August 8, an increase of up to 34 times compared to the same period last year (2024). The organization noted that most of the deaths in Mexico were among the indigenous population, aged between one and 54 years. The organization confirmed that the disease is “highly contagious” and spreads rapidly among the unvaccinated, especially children. In the United States, a study conducted by the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” revealed a decrease in vaccination rates against measles, diphtheria, and polio during the 2024-2025 school year compared to the previous year, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.
