The agency said in a statement: “The Department of State has decided to approve a potential foreign military sale to the Government of Ukraine that includes air munitions and related equipment at an estimated cost of $825 million.” According to the department, Ukraine requested up to 3,350 long-range guided missiles and a similar number of anti-jamming navigation systems. The proposed delivery package will also include containers, suspension equipment, spare parts, software, training materials, as well as technical and logistical support services.
Russia believes that the supply of weapons to Ukraine directly involves NATO countries in the conflict and “plays with fire.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
