The American website “Axios” previously confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner left Washington heading to Sharm El-Sheikh. The website quoted an American official saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “did an excellent job,” noting that what he called “military pressure was crucial in pushing Hamas towards more pragmatic positions,” and stressed that “the time has come to reach an agreement.” Axios pointed out that the Trump administration is exerting significant pressure on both Israel and Hamas to reach a comprehensive agreement in the coming days.
The visit follows a meeting Trump held with his national security team in Washington on Tuesday evening to discuss the progress of negotiations related to the Gaza agreement before his envoys left for Egypt. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the next forty-eight hours of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Egypt will be crucial in determining the future of the potential settlement in the Gaza Strip, according to American media reports.
Indirect negotiations between the delegations of Hamas and Israel have been taking place in Egypt since Monday, with the participation of mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, as part of the plan proposed by the American president to end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, release hostages, and begin the reconstruction phase.
These developments come days after Hamas announced its acceptance of the principle of the American initiative, and several Western and Arab capitals confirmed their support for Trump’s efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement.
