Ryabkov told reporters: “We expect the American administration to continue its efforts in line with the understandings and foundations laid at the most important meeting of the presidents in Alaska.” The Russian and American presidents discussed ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict during a meeting held in Alaska on August 15. Following the summit, the Russian president stated the possibility of ending the conflict in Ukraine, affirming Russia’s keen interest in reaching a long-term settlement.

After Trump’s meeting with Putin, Trump held a meeting in Washington with Zelensky and EU leaders, announcing afterwards that France, Germany, and Britain wish to deploy forces in Ukraine. He added that there would be no American troops in Ukraine during his presidency.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that any scenario of deploying forces from NATO member countries in Ukraine is categorically rejected by Russia and warns of a sharp escalation. The ministry had previously described the statements made by Britain and other European countries about the potential deployment of a military force from alliance countries in Ukraine as an incitement to continue military operations.
