In a press conference broadcast by the Lithuanian Radio and Television Station, Orbelis stated, “Last week, the U.S. Department of Defense officially informed countries that starting from the next fiscal year, this line (section 333) will be reset to zero for all European countries.”

Orbelis explained that Lithuania has not yet received an official message from the Pentagon regarding the termination of support; the continuation of military support for European countries, including the Baltic states, under other programs is still being discussed verbally.

A British newspaper reported yesterday, Thursday, citing informed sources, that the United States will reduce its security funding for European countries neighboring Russia by hundreds of millions of dollars.

The newspaper added, quoting informed sources: “The United States will reduce some of its security funding for European countries neighboring Russia… Pentagon officials informed European diplomats last week that the United States will not fund training and arming programs for forces in Eastern European countries.”

This decision may reduce support by hundreds of millions of dollars. According to the newspaper’s sources, EU countries were shocked by the U.S. decision and are trying to clarify the details.
