Women now make up 18% of entrepreneurs in the UAE, leading advancements in FinTech, health, wellness, and industrial services, according to a report released on Monday.

Recent insights from Sovereign, a top corporate services provider in the UAE, highlight the increasing influence of women-led businesses on the nation’s economy. This progress reflects the UAE’s dedication to gender equality and empowering women, emphasized by the upcoming Emirati Women’s Day on August 28.

Though Sovereign mainly engages with large regional and global corporations—where female ownership remains limited—the entrepreneurial and SME sectors are rapidly expanding. This growth is fueled by a surge in incubators, accelerators, and women-centric business networks across the Emirates, offering new chances for women entrepreneurs to launch and grow their businesses.

“Female entrepreneurs are pioneers of innovation in the UAE,” stated Zana Jablan Musa, Operations Director at Sovereign. “From AI-driven FinTech solutions to health and fitness enterprises, women are utilizing the UAE’s supportive business environment to create innovative and sustainable businesses. At Sovereign, we proudly assist them throughout the process—from company setup and licensing advice to residency solutions and ownership structuring.”

Key sector developments:

FinTech: Numerous women-led firms have applied for the AI Innovation License in DIFC to develop trading applications.

Health and wellness: Female entrepreneurs are driving significant growth in clinics, laser and beauty salons, and fitness ventures.

Industrial services: The UAE’s flexible regulations are exemplified by a female client obtaining 75% ownership in a power station contracting and repair business.

Interest in visas and residency for skilled professionals and remote workers from the UK, Ireland, and other regions relocating to the UAE is increasing, showcasing a broader trend of international female talent enhancing the UAE economy.

The UAE government continues to support female entrepreneurship through initiatives such as the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, which provides low-interest loans, mentoring, and business plan guidance for women, alongside the National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023–2031, aimed at boosting women’s involvement across all sectors.

The release of this data ahead of Emirati Women’s Day highlights the pivotal role women are playing in shaping the UAE’s business environment—from Emirati nationals to international entrepreneurs taking advantage of the country’s supportive policies and business-friendly climate. Through its efforts in company formation, licensing, regulatory advice, and residency solutions across the UAE and GCC, Sovereign continues to empower female entrepreneurs to transform opportunities into successful businesses.
