The report published by the ‘Tolo News’ portal stated: “The ‘Nawai Zan’ (Voice of Women) station has been launched in Herat, a radio station dedicated solely to women. More than 10 female journalists work in the studio, producing diverse content focused on women’s issues.” Shabnam Karimi, the station’s director, declared that ‘Nawai Zan’ was established to highlight women’s voices, and emphasized that the female journalists at the station will strive to spotlight the achievements of women and girls, as well as the challenges they face.
The ‘burqa’ completely conceals a woman’s face and body, with the eyes covered by a thick mesh fabric sewn into the garment. Previously, women were allowed to walk the streets and visit government buildings in Afghanistan wearing other forms of Islamic clothing, including the hijab, niqab, and ‘chador.’
