An Asian worker, aged 32, has been granted Dh70,000 in compensation after a Dubai court found his supervisors and employer accountable for a workplace accident that resulted in his permanent disability.
According to court documents, the worker was tasked with operating a steel-bending machine at a workshop. During the task, his hand got caught in the machine, leading to the loss of two fingers.
Investigations uncovered that the worker had not been provided with adequate safety training or instructions before using the equipment.

The Dubai Criminal Court earlier convicted two Asian supervisors of negligence, determining they failed to maintain workplace safety.
They received a one-month jail sentence, suspended for three years, and a fine of Dh5,000. The court determined that insufficient supervision and neglect of safety measures directly contributed to the incident.
After this criminal ruling, the injured worker pursued a civil claim seeking Dh150,000 for damages, citing his physical disability, medical costs, and financial losses due to the injury. The Civil Court, after examining the evidence and medical reports, decided that the supervisors and the company should jointly compensate him with Dh70,000.
