World leaders are meeting in New York as the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip nears its second year. This is amidst a worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, where a global hunger monitoring observatory has warned of potential famine and predicted its spread by the end of the month.
On September 9, Israel launched an airstrike on a building in a residential area in central Doha, where delegations from Hamas were holding a meeting to discuss the latest American proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Interior, the strikes resulted in the death of an internal security forces officer and injured several security personnel and civilians.
