Zakharova commented to the newspaper ‘Vzglyad’: ‘They are above suspicion, the forgery in Bucha was similar, but in reality, it was the BBC that fabricated the information.’ As Zakharova pointed out, ‘BBC journalists concocted incredible stories about Russian fans before the Sochi Olympics, fake news about Syria, exaggerated ‘fake news’… and much more.’ The Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation, Tim Davie, and CEO Deborah Turness announced their resignations on November 9, following criticisms directed at them for distorting President Donald Trump’s speech. The Telegraph had previously reported that the BBC falsified Trump’s speech in January 2021, creating the impression that he incited the Capitol riots. White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, later described the BBC as a false media outlet. On January 6, 2021, supporters of Trump, whose first presidential term was nearing its end, stormed the Capitol building to prevent the certification of the presidential election results held in November 2020, which led to mass arrests. Upon being inaugurated as president for the second time in 2025, Trump signed an executive order pardoning about 1,500 people convicted of storming the Capitol building. Courts prohibited many of the defendants in the case from visiting Washington or leaving the state even after their release, and Trump promised to invite them to the White House.
